Description

SN: 53748. Discover this sweet-sounding, feather-light all-mahogany prewar gem. Crafted in Nazareth in 1933, the 0-17 was Martin’s most affordable and popular guitar, with 881 built. it was priced at just $30. In contrast, the OM-18 sold 200 units at $50 each. Like the OM, the 0-17 was one of the earliest models redesigned with 14-frets to the body. The unbeatable price-to-performance kept Martin competitive with lower-priced brands, like the Gibson L-00, during the depression. They remain excellent vintage value and terrific front-porch pickers and strummers.

The top, sides and back are made from unbound mahogany. A simple rectangular rosewood bridge, three-ply rosette and faux tortoise pickguard complete the top. The neck is mahogany with ebony reinforcement, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with bar frets and short-pattern small dots. The face plate has a Brazilian rosewood veneer with the old style stenciled logo. The back of the head stock retains the older style Martin stamp. Inside you'll find the same architecture as the rest of the line -- scalloped bracing and small maple bridge plate .

In excellent structural condition, this one shows light scratch-wear on the top and buckle rash on the back. Recent upgrades include a refret and PLEK setup, a clean neck reset, and a perfect repro bridge. The ebony nut is a well crafted replacement. High-quality Golden Era replacement tuners enhance its performance. The action is a perfect 6/64” on the low E at the 12th fret. Comes with a new single-0 Guardian case.
