1983年にコストパフォーマンスモデルのラインナップが一新され、SG800Sが生産完了となり、代わりにSG510が登場します。
従来モデルと大きく違う点が、ピックアップセレクターのトグルスイッチが6弦側カッタウェイでは無く、ボリュームコントロールに移動したことです。
これによりフロントピックアップ付近でカッティングを行う奏法でもピックアップを切り替えてしまうリスクが減ります。
SGのコストパフォーマンスモデルとして最後に登場したSG510。
