The Stingray is one of the most popular Musicman basses, and was instrumental in the introduction of the active bass to the market. The Starling By MUSIC MAN Ray34 is a new model released by a new brand that inherits the specs of the USA-made Stingray while keeping the cost down.
It is equipped with humbucker pickups and a 3-band equalizer with treble/mid/bass boost/cut, and of course a 3:1 head layout!
The Stingray has a strong impression of fingerpicking and slapping, but the wide variable EQ makes it a sound that can also be used for a wide range of playing with a pick!
The thicker rosewood fingerboard gives the impression of a slightly more subdued sound compared to a maple fingerboard.
Although it is a low-cost model, its traditional design and powerful sound make it one that can be recommended as an entry-level instrument or as a sub.
