Description

Handcrafted in the United Kingdom by master luthier Damian Probett, the Probett Rocket II Hardtail is a stunning example of meticulous craftsmanship and refined design. Probett Guitars is known for blending vintage aesthetics with modern performance, creating instruments that feel familiar yet offer elevated playability and tone. This particular piece is in immaculate condition, showing hardly any wear, making it a rare find for collectors and players alike.

At its core, the Rocket II Hardtail features a set neck with an extended Explorer-style tenon, enhancing sustain and structural integrity. The body is made from a single piece of premium-grade mahogany, measuring 1.75” thick, delivering a warm, resonant tone with excellent depth. The 24.625” scale length sits comfortably between classic Gibson and Fender designs, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of playing styles.

Designed with playability in mind, the Rocket II Hardtail features a Telecaster-style lower bout, providing a sleek ergonomic shape, while the Stratocaster-style upper contours incorporate a deep belly cut and forearm bevel, ensuring a natural and comfortable playing experience. The one-piece quartersawn mahogany neck adds stability and tonal warmth, while the first-grade rosewood fretboard ensures smooth playability. A 12” fretboard radius and vintage-spec dot inlays create a classic yet versatile playing surface suited for both lead and rhythm work.

For precision and durability, the guitar includes a bone nut (1.693” width / 43mm), nickel silver frets (.100” x .050”), and a vintage-style single-acting truss rod. The headstock angle is set at 10 degrees, contributing to sustain and tuning stability.

The Rocket II Hardtail is equipped with custom-wound Bulldog pickups, providing a dynamic range of tones. The bridge pickup is a Bulldog-wound A5 humbucker, delivering punch, clarity, and harmonic complexity, while the neck pickup is a Bulldog A2 P90, offering warmth and rich midrange. Both pickups are un-potted, allowing for greater responsiveness and an open, expressive sound. A 3-way switch keeps controls straightforward while offering a range of versatile tones.

High-quality hardware ensures reliability and excellent tonal transfer. The Faber Vintage Wraparound bridge enhances sustain and resonance, while Gotoh “Kluson”-style tuners provide precise tuning stability. The guitar is finished in a lightly aged, non-plasticized nitrocellulose lacquer, adding vintage appeal while allowing the wood to resonate freely.

Weighing 7lbs 15oz, the Probett Rocket II Hardtail offers a balanced feel, making it comfortable for extended playing sessions. It comes housed in a Hiscox “Liteflite” hardshell case for secure storage and transport. With serial number 331718, this guitar stands as a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship and innovation behind Probett instruments.
