From the Lords of Lap Steels, Valco of Chicago, a rare and terrific seven string model. Often called the “New Yorker” model for its graphic resemblance to New York's skyline (and that may be the official model name though it's not so marked) it is LOUD, in part from its 23” scale but mostly from its monster pickup. The variable tone control is alluringly labeled from “Hawaiian" to "Chimes” to “Harp”, more seductive than necessary but it does the job. Clean, clear, cool, and works like a charm. All all there but for the hand rest, of which I’ve never seen one present on one of these. I suspect they all may have been made from a less than desirable material that promptly vanished of its own accord. The other 99.9% of this fab and rare National is in wonderful condition and its original tweed Geib hard shell case comes with it. Oh, and the 1964 date may be way off, could easily be from the late 1940s as National serial numbers were perplexing at best. N’importe. $1195 w/ohsc
