This is a truly awesome modern Martin guitar, a Custom Shop creation that was ordered by the staff at a very cool guitar shop in Petaluma, California - Tall Toad.
Cosmetically, this guitar is truly gorgeous. I was surprised to find that the beautiful top is Alaskan Cedar. it has the color of spruce, but the grain is definitely different than any Spruce I've seen - individual grain lines are basically invisible. The color of the top is the natural color of the cedar, also known as Alaskan Yellow Cedar.
Unlike Red Cedar, Alaskan Cedar is bright and lively. The wood is very light and very stiff making for powerful articulate guitars.
The back and sides are solid Guatemalan rosewood, said to be the next best thing to Brazilian, and similar in looks too. The bracing is scalloped.
The neck feels perfect and sports a 1 3/4" nut width with an ebony fretboard. The scale length is that of an OM - 25.4". The body length spec is that of a 000. The upper and lower bout width are slightly larger than most 000s. The dimensions are somewhat unique, but the guitar definitely has that 000 voice and the playability of an OM.
List price when new was just over $6560.
The guitar was recently set up by Larry Cragg - the North Bay's go-to guitar tech. He added the bridge pins and fitted them perfectly, and performed his mystery "wake up" process on the guitar to bring out the tone. It worked!
The guitar is nearly new looking. There are no issues or repairs. There is little discernable fret wear.
Included is the original paperwork in the original case.
