How often do you come across a totally solid, mid-1920s, prime era Martin that you can own and play with confidence? And that will comfortably support extra-light gauge steel strings as well? Not too often, not even in the sixty years I’ve been doing this. We rescued this lovely pre-war Martin from ignominy; it had been languishing in storage for years after some very solid repairs and some that were not so. We went over it very thoroughly, re-doing some prior work and leaving some that was quite good and doing the remainder here, and putting on those oh-so-crucial final touches in our own shop. This included everything necessary for 100% structural solidity and everything needed to bring it to lovely playability with a set of .011 strings (an .010 set would be fine too). Work done includes: solidifying some top cracks that needed it and ensuring that other older repairs were totally solid; checking that older repairs of a few back cracks and one side crack were 100% solid; someone did a prime job of this ages ago, wish I knew who it was. Ensuring that the more recent Martin factory-made compensated bridge was well placed. Then came the work that demanded top precision, resetting the neck and thoroughly going over the original bar-type frets and the nut and saddle, all of which I will always insist is done here in-house, and it was. The tuning machines are original 1924, thankfully re-buttoned, one gear screw creatively replaced. Enough; you get the picture, a very solid heartthrob of a 1920s 12-fret Martin. There ain't nothing else in the world that can come close for joy when you sit down to play a Martin like this. Comes with a modern hard shell case. $6995 w/hsc
