Gibson Les Paul Custom 1983 - White
Here we have a great-playing 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom! This one is in very good shape with a few modifications to note.
Specs include a mahogany body, maple top, and ebony fretboard. The neck appears to be 3-piece mahogany. It has Schaller style tuners with built in winders. The pickups are a set of stamped patent numbers without any ink stamps. The bridge looks to be changed to an ABR-1 style unit, sitting atop the original Nashville posts. The strap buttons are changed to Schaller locking and the gold speed knobs look newer.
At some point this guitar had a mini toggle and a push-pull pot in the neck tone position. The mini toggle has been removed and the hole filled with a pearl dot inlay. The electronics plate had been cut and the wood under the neck tone pot deepened subtly to accommodate the push-pull pot. The guitar is back to stock wiring now, with a replaced neck tone pot and replaced capacitors. The other pots look correct and the capacitors are the correct era.
The guitar has light dings and marks over its surface, as well as some light buckle wear on the back. The color has aged to a creamy ivory and looks fantastic. The gold hardware shows light wear and age as to be expected. The fretboard was refretted in the 90s with medium jumbo wire and they are still in good condition. There is a crew missing from the truss rod cover. There are no breaks.
This one weighs in at 10lbs 5oz. The neck measures .770 to .965 at the 1st and 12th. It has a slimmer C shaped neck that is pretty consistent in depth right up the neck heel transition. The guitar feels great under the pick hand. It's dynamic and growls when you dig in. It has a throaty sound with a warm woodiness and good clarity. It's really an easy guitar to play and enjoy.
