Description

This 1981 Gibson Victory MVII CM is in good condition. This guitar shows signs of slight play wear and age throughout including some finish flaking on the top of the instrument below the bridge. Otherwise, this guitar is in good shape and is all original. This Victory has a 24 3/4” scale and features a great feeling medium chunky rounded three-piece maple neck with soft shoulders, a bound Madagascar ebony fingerboard and a 1 11/16” nut width. The original medium jumbo frets on this guitar are in excellent condition and have no dents or divots in them. This instrument has been set up here in our shop and it plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with low smooth action and great intonation. The electronics in this Victory are all original and are in perfect working order. This guitar features a Gibson Bill Lawrence designed Velvet Brick humbucker in the neck position and a Gibson Magna II humbucking pickup in the bridge position that can both be “split” to a single coil with the coil tap switch located below the volume and tone controls. Both pickups sound righteous! The bridge pickup delivers a very hot mid-rangy punch that that absolutely screams through an overdriven amp while maintaining excellent note definition thanks to the hard rock maple body. The neck pickup sounds giant and has a super warm rounded tone that works really well for jazzy cleans and thick searing leads alike. This guitar is perfectly capable of nailing 1980s metal tones, clean pretty sounds, heavy blues and deep saturated doom tones with ease. The Victory series was introduced by Gibson in 1981 and was discontinued in 1984. These guitars were made in two different electronic configurations, both with the model designation “MV” that referred to Multi-Voice. The MVX featured an HSH configuration while the model we have here, the MVII, is an HH configuration.

This particular example has lived here in Clarksville, Tennessee, for at least the last 30 years. The first time I saw this particular instrument was in 1993. This Victory hung in a very popular local guitar shop here in town for a very long time and the owner absolutely would not sell it. After the music store owner passed away, the guitar was sold to a local player here in town and now... it’s here at our shop (still hanging in Clarksville, but now actually for sale). It’s pretty awesome to see it again after all of these years and I hope it brings its new owner many years of inspiration and righteous tones! This guitar is housed in a heavy duty Gibson wedge shaped gig bag, weighs 9lb even and will ship out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Tennessee to your front door!
