Description

There is, in my opinion, no better way for an aspiring collector to dip his toe into the vintage water than to buy an SG or Les Paul Junior. Find one with the bigger neck profile because they are easier to sell when you decide to upgrade and, for many, easier to play. That means a 1 11/16" nut. The depth of the neck is less important. For Gibson, that limits you to guitars made up to the Spring of 1965. This SG Jr. is an early 65 with a medium chunky neck profile-same as the very desirable 64 for less money. The single P90 is the same as the P90's in a Les Paul Goldtop from 1952 to 1957. It's the sound of rock and roll and the blues in the 50's and into the 60's. This guitar is well priced due to a few changes that won't affect the tone. The bridge is a Pigtail adjustable wrap tail. The stock wrap tail isn't much use with modern plain G strings. The Pigtail bridge takes care of intonation issues. The other change is the tuners-they are reproduction Klusons-identical to the originals so you could easily swap in a set of 65 tuners if you wanted. They are relatively inexpensive (less than $200). The cost of an original "lightning" wrap tail is cheap as well so getting this one back to stock is not a big financial endeavor. The case is modern but most Jr's came in cardboard cases so this is an improvement. The capacitor in the tone circuit has been changed to a vintage bumblebee. Other than these changes, the guitar is original (pickup, pots, studs, plastic parts, finish, frets). It's a rock and roll monster that won't break the bank. It's as simple as that.
