Description

Now available on consignment, an original 1968 Gibson Les Paul Custom!

This first year example for the reissue Les Paul Custom is one of roughly 400 made in this year. It has been well played (and with good reason), easily being one of the better Les Pauls we have had through the shop here.

The guitar has been modified over the years, having been restored back to original specification some years back.

Work to the guitar includes:

  • The pickups are period correct replacements with late 60s t-top in the bridge, and an earlier pre t-top patent # in the neck position.

  • The tone capacitors have been replaced with orange drops.

  • There are 2x mini switch holes between the controls that have been professionally plugged and touched up.

  • There was a strap button added to the neck heel, now removed. The strap buttons are replacements.

  • The abr1 bridge and aluminium tailpiece are period correct parts from the late 60s.

  • Grover tuners were fitted at some point, the aged waffleback klusons have been reinstalled.

  • The guitar has been refretted some time ago with plenty of life.

Despite the modifications this guitar retains its original feel and vibe, and it has NO breaks or repairs to the neck. The 4x original pots date to the 26th week of '68, and the original input jack is present (replaced jackplate). The original finish shows plenty of play wear and buckle rash, evidence that this was someone's everyday player.

An awesome playing example of a real 1968 Gibson Les Paul Custom! Includes its original yellow lined Gibson case with a few broken latches.
