Description

Pleased to offer this very rare Gibson L-5. A pre-1933 transition guitar with block inlays, just after the Master Built label was changed in 1927 after the initial Lloyd Loar L-5 created for Gibson by the master mandolin musician and builder. Serial number and FON are 1931.

Note the Flowerpot headstock inlay but “The Gibson” logo inlay not at an angle. “AL” played this guitar for many years and his stickered initials remain on the pickguard which can likely removed if needed.

The L-5 from the Lloyd Loar era was a major advancement for the Gibson arch top acoustic guitar as it was designed to be better heard in a group setting of mandolins and other instruments. This is a fantastic example from the 1920s before changes were made in the early-mid 1930s.
