1940 Gibson J-55 Rosewood in very good condition. It is hard to overstate how exceptionally rare this rosewood version of the J-55 is, with only two examples currently known to exist. This Gibson is all original aside from having had a metal strap button installed. The guitar has two professionally repaired cracks on the bottom side of the lower bout. This J-55 was constructed with a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, a mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and a Brazilian rosewood bridge. The comfortable “C” shaped neck has a width of 1 3/4” at the nut, a depth of 0.92” deep at the first fret, and a depth of 1.08” at the tenth fret. The guitar has a 24 3/4” scale and weighs 4.54 lbs. The guitar features a gorgeous three tone sunburst finish, an incredibly cool stairstep style firestripe pickguard, and a two-tiered batwing style bridge. This J-55 sounds truly phenomenal, with all the warmth and woodiness one expects from a Gibson jumbo but with an added dimensional complexity across its tonal spectrum due its rare rosewood body. Comes with the original hard to find Gibson hardshell case.
