Here's a double guard 1957 J-200. Before you write to me to tell me the bass side guard was added later, you should know that there are a number of these J200's with unmatched guards out there. It seems odd that Gibson wouldn't match the guards but it also seems odd that so many (at least a half dozen that I've seen) would have been added like that. So, maybe the double guard is factory and maybe it isn't. It's still a great guitar that looks as cool as the other side of the pillow. J-200's are big, loud and heavy on the bottom end of the tone scale. They aren't generally boomy but there is a lot of bass in the mix. The double guard mitigates a lot of that, making these really excellent for recording, especially chords. I'm not sure when the cowboy case is from but the cowhide lining is pretty unusual. It's pretty old but not from 1957. The guitar has one small repair at the lower bass bout by the binding. I'm not sure what they repaired-it doesn't appear to be a crack. Maybe just a finish flaw or bad scratch. There is no cleat and it's barely visible unless you're six inches away. It has an adjustable saddle which is unusual for a J-200. It would be easy to swap in a stock bridge and saddle (I have a stock mustache bridge that I will include). This is a wonderful guitar that would enhance any collection.
