Description

Eric Clapton interest - 1962 Fender Tremolux-Amp guitar amplifier head, made in USA, ser. no. 03381, bearing a 'Derek and the Dominos' stencil to the top

*Given to the vendor by his good friend Terry Clemson, who was a renowned session guitarist, playing with Downliners Sect and various other artists including Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Bo Diddly etc.

The vendor has stated that it is thought Clemson acquired the amplifier from Rockbottom Music in Croydon, London, a popular music store frequented by many artists from the mid 1970s onwards.

During Eric Clapton's Blind Faith and Derek & the Dominos era, he favoured Fender amps, often seen with various Tremolux and Dual Showman models. An image from the Blind Faith rehearsals show this version of the Tremolux situated behind Steve Winwood. Another image of Clapton from the 1960s, shows him using a Fender Tremolux head with cab on stage. Further images from Derek & the Dominos concerts show Tremolux heads behind Clapton.

The stencil, now heavily faded, features the same design, font type and letter spacing to other known and confirmed Eric Clapton amplifiers.

An Eric Clapton owned Fender Dual Showman amp, sold at a Gardiner Houlgate auction in March 2023. This amp featured the same stencil that this amplifier holds. This Dual Showman stencil was confirmed to be genuine by Derek & the Dominos era road manager Baz Ward. See listing here: https://tinyurl.com/EricClaptonTrem

The amplifier is generally in good condition, with a replacement front grille that was installed by Terry Clemson. The top handle has also been repaired / repositioned and the amp converted to UK voltage. Along with the fading stencil, the amp also shows cigarette burns along the top edge.
