Description

Telecasters never seem to go out of style because no other model can match its distinctive twang and vibe. Just check out the guitars that pros record and play live with and you quickly see that the Telecaster remains the guitar of choice for many. And if you are going to spend serious money on an electric guitar, why not buy a model that is also a good investment?

Offered for your consideration is this exceptional vintage Fender Telecaster, serial number 210116 which was built in mid-1968, still early in the CBS era. This guitar is notable for its optional maple cap fingerboard and it still has the cloth wiring that Fender was already in the process of converting to less expensive plastic-insulated wire. Light weight ash was getting difficult to source in the late 60’s, but the Fender craftsman found a nice piece for this guitar which has a total weight of 7.5 pounds (7 lbs. 8 oz.). The original poly finish is well-faded “see-through” blonde rather than the thicker poly finish adopted by Fender in subsequent years. The maple neck is dated August 1968 and has a relatively large 'C' shape with depth measurements of .879" at the first fret increasing to .972” at the twelfth fret. It retains the original "black bottom" pickups with outputs of 6.6 ohms at the neck and 5.9 ohms at the bridge. The original cloth wiring, pots, caps and solder joints remain untouched and unmolested. The original frets are well worn but remain quite playable with approximately 20% of their playable life remaining.

There is nothing like the twang of a Telecaster - its design gives it a voice all its own. The tone of this guitar is faithful to the legacy of the model, just check out the brief sound sample included below. It still plays great too with a nice low setup.

This guitar has been well played but also well cared for and remains in much better than average condition for it's age with the only wear being the frets and a few dings near the control plate and on the back edges of the body. It comes in a period-correct black Fender / G&G tolex case with amp logo which is in very good condition. The original ashtray bridge cover is included.

If you are looking for the best playing and sounding investment-grade vintage Tele you can get, this Tele warrants your serious consideration. This guitar has a voice that is unmistakable and a vibe that will spoil you for anything more recently built.
