Check out this 1965 Fender Stratocaster in “Selmer” Fiesta Red that has some of the coolest looking wear! This particular guitar was repainted in the 1960s by Selmer London, a large and very well known instruments dealer in the UK at the time. With an import ban on all US-made instruments ending in 1959, there was tremendous appetite for Fender instruments in the UK, and with Hank Marvin and his Red Stratocaster making a splash with his hit “Apache,” the demand for custom color Fenders was greater than ever. In order to meet demand, stores such as Selmer would have local craftsmen repaint often unsold Sunburst Fenders and sell them as new. This particular example is indeed one of these guitars, and the wear on the body shows glimpses of the original Sunburst finish underneath. The original neck finish has been played in for an incredibly comfortable feel, and the neck was professionally refretted with vintage-correct size fretwire. The wear throughout this piece, especially the back of the body, just looks fantastic with a stunning contrast of the original Sunburst and top coat of red.
