Eric Clapton - 1996 Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton Dinky Stratocaster, made in USA, no. 4/5; Body: trans green finish; Neck: maple; Fretboard: maple with green pearl position markers; Frets: some tarnishing and oxidisation; Hardware: some oxidisation and rusting; Case: original hard case; Overall condition: fair
*One of just five Dinky Stratocasters specially commissioned through John Page at the Fender Custom Shop, each uniquely finished to match the color of one of Eric Clapton’s Ferraris. This particular example was gifted to Graham 'Cup Cake' Cooper, a longtime friend of both Eric Clapton and his manager Roger Forrester. Around the time Clapton and Forrester ended their professional relationship, the guitar was passed on to Graham.
Of the remaining four guitars, one was sold on behalf of Clapton’s art director David Costa (Lot 154, The Guitar Auction, Gardiner Houlgate, 11th March 2020), another is believed to have been given to guitarist Andy Fairweather Low, and a third to Lee Dixon, Clapton’s longtime guitar technician. The whereabouts of the final guitar remain unknown.
Dinky model Fender Stratocasters are exceptionally rare and are surrounded by a certain mystique—even within Fender’s own ranks. Research suggests they may have been produced exclusively for internal use or by private commission, further enhancing their allure and collectability.
