Description

SN: 995172. Near mint example of a twenty year-old D-18 Golden Era. The GE was originally a “Limited Edition” model that moved into production in response to the growing interest in prewar guitars. It conformed to the specs and some of the construction techniques of the 1937 and later 1934 D-18s and included cloth side strips, light scalloped bracing, a small maple bridge plate, 1-3/4” nut and 2-5/16” string spacing at the bridge. The top is Adirondack spruce. It was built in small numbers, each with a label signed by C. F. Martin. In 2004, a big production year, only 425 were made, one fewer than the number of D-18s built in 1937 (426)
.
This one looks and feels brand new although it has had a good deal of playing time over the last 20 years. The hang tags are still in the case. The only modification is a strap button correctly installed in the heel. The action is dead solid perfect with a nice tall saddle. The tone is big and round with a lot of bass and midrange – perfect for Bluegrass rhythm or leads, hammers and pulls or just plain strumming and singing.

Included is the original hardshell case, also in excellent condition.
