SD-1 SUPER Over Drive (NEC C4558C/JAPAN)
BOSS SD-1 with NEC C4558C op-amp, made in 1981!
It features an asymmetrical overdrive circuit inherited from the OD-1, and a new tone control that can boost/cut the high frequencies. Due to changes in circuit details, it has a slightly higher gain and more solid texture compared to the OD-1. It is possible to create sweet and mild distortion without killing the nuances of subtle picking. The op-amp is NEC C4558C, which was installed in the very early stage (*Other units with Taiwan-made boards from '82 to '03 are also available). Other examples include the JRC4558D installed around '82, and the JRC4558DD installed in most SD-1s since then. The control knobs on this model were screw-fixed until around '83, and the pots are also solid-shafted. SD-1 was manufactured in Japan until mid-'89, and then the production line was moved to Taiwan. The back side of this model has some signs of use, but there are no problems with its operation.
