Description

SN 2109: Bagnasco & Casati (Savona, IT) are small batch craftsmen building prewar and wartime reproductions using period-correct techniques, glues, finishes and tone woods. Every detail is handcrafted and meticulously executed. Their aesthetic sensibility produces gorgeous sunbursts and amber shade tops. The tone woods they source are second to none. They seem to build fewer guitars than most, and have a large following in Europe. Their builds are sought after by players and collectors alike.

I imported this guitar a year ago or so when it was new. I can say without hesitation that it’s the finest Bagnasco & Casati to come through the shop. It was an unusual build order for B&C and they were inspired and rose to the occasion. The top is a master grade moon logged Alpine Spruce finished in a hot sunburst with herringbone trim, ivoroid binding and vintage style pick guard. The back and sides are select book matched Brazilian rosewood with binding and back strip. The neck is mahogany with an ebony board, long pattern diamonds and snowflakes inlay and 1-3/4 nut. Tuners are gold Waverlys. Their logo is stamped on the back of the headstock
.
As you may have guessed, this build was inspired by the 1933 Martin D-28 that belonged, for a time, to Norman Blake. There have been some details changed for the modern player and aesthetic – notably the 1-3/4” nut and gold tuners – but it’s an honest and faithful reproduction of that iconic guitar. Big shoes to fill but this one definitely has the goods!

Comes in a nice Canadian made hard case. More pictures available. I will have the guitar in the shop in about a week.

On consignment.
